Woops. I wrecked my M6. -
07-29-2010, 04:49 PM
We were taking a bunch of wounded Vets out on Road Atlanta today, and I took my convertible to use for those vets that might be able to get into a street car easier than a race car (and to spend a few hours honing my "skills" as a solo driver).
First Vet had a blast - warm up lap, two hot laps, and a cool down lap. A buddy with another M6 coupe and I were passing each other to make the Vets feel like we were in a real race... They loved it. I picked up my second passenger and did a warm up lap, then took Turn 1 WAY too fast and spun out into the wall. Car got dinged up and will be in the shop for a few weeks, but you should've seen the smile on her face when the dust was settling and she'd taken off her helmet. :)
Lesson learned - I'm not as good as Rackeu or as good as I think I am, but it could've been much worse. Gotta run - 10th anniversary today and I should probably get off the computer.

Glad it wasn't serious and that you're okay. Tracks are the best place to see the limitations of your car. I bet you made a few people's year by showing up.

Much better than reading about a teenagers "woops I wrecked my ..."
good cause and not so bad a result. And in a proper environment. Glad the vets had a good time and you were ok.

So you have an estimate yet? Are you paying out of pocket or trying to use insurance?

The estimate was just over $10k. Might go as high as $20k, but the body shop manager doesn't think so. Doing it out of pocket. Insurance agent gave me the option of saying I hit a guardrail instead of a track wall, but karma is a bitch. It could've been MUCH worse the more I remember about it. Different parts started coming back to me over the weekend.

Yep, if covered thru insurance, they would get it back some way AND possibly deny future coverage or cancel you. I've read stories like that.

Dude, you don't know what you're missing. I like the "Father & Son Hunt" photo on the home page.

FYI
(1) Deers are not native creatures down here. The more we shoot the damn things, the better for our land down under.
(2) Barramundi is a type of native freshwater fish. Yes, they are quite delicious to eat.

1. Substitute "wild boar" for "deer" and you have our situation in California. There is no season or bag limit for hunting wild boar in Ca--you do need a hunting license though--as they destroy native vegitation and are a real problem wherever they flourish. They are actually escaped Euro boars whose genes dominate when bred with domestic pigs. I hunt them in the vinyards around Paso Robles and, I must say, grape eating makes for mighty tasty meat Oh, and the deer are a real PITA on my property. Can only go after them with a bow, and only at certain times. Had to build a cantilevered chain link fence to keep em at bay.
2. Available in Ca, but farm raised.

Speaking of hippies I was in hippie heaven in Lama (Llama), New Mexico just north of Taos. Found out I have some very interesting, but strange, inlaws. Not sure if it is/was the altitude or the drugs.
