Have you heard this one? Months ago I installed the iPod adapter from EAS myself. Per BMW, they need to encode the computer with iPod recognition in order for it to work properly (shut off, allow the CIP upgrade, etc). They are charging $275 for this!!!! Is this highway robery or legit? I thought my '06 was fully iPod ready.

Seems like highway robbery to me. I did the same thing - i.e. installed the iPod MOST assembly / adapter myself and recently upgraded to 25.0.2. The shop did have problems (described above) but they did not charge me for dealing with them.

Hang tough! :knight2:

There might be a difference in behavior if the car is turned off for a shorter vs. longer period...

Yeah, that is kind of what I am afraid of...some variable like that. I was, of course, hoping that somehow the system would know that it would be more annoying to lose one's place in an 8 hour book than to restart a 3 minute song...and would limit its "resettingness" accordingly ;-) Guess that is probably not the case

Well there is the obvious sleep mode when the car has been off for about 20 minutes. Anything shorter then sleep mode then the car remembers a lot more (systems have not shut down completely).

So, what that means is, after the "new" wears off...you will be more likely to have the car off for more than 20 minutes at a time...thus the iPod problem might sneak up on you!

Yeah I was afraid some dealer would pull this. When I take my car in for iDrive updates, I remove my adapter and put the CD changer back in just to make sure they don't give me grief. :jackit: A 5 minute job to swap them back.

I am still not sure if BMW officially supports the MOST adapter on my car. :dunno:
