View Full Version : What are .download files?

When I sync my camera (Rebel XTi) or my iPhone, it moves pictures to a folder of the picture's date (e.g. c:/2009 01 15, c:/2009 01 16, etc.) I get the .jpg files, but I also sometimes (all the times lately) get an additional .download file that corresponds to every .jpg. Usually, the actual picture is in the .jpg, and the .download is 0 KB, but occasionally it's backwards and I have to rename the .download file. (e.g. IMG_0155.jpg and IMG_0155.jpg.download).

Any idea why this happens and how I can fix it?

Thanks!

Sorry M6D, I can't help you there. I don't get any .download files between my PC and my iPod Touch. I always copy the pics to my PC first and then move just the ones I want on the iPod (reduced in size as well) to a separate directory for syncing.

I noticed that once or twice. I'll rack my brain, if I remember it correctly, it was something to do with portable devices and a certain software you have on your computer that creates that .download file.

Are you moving the files off through Windows Explorer or through an application like WinAMP, iTunes or Adobe Media Explorer?

iTunes is grabbing the pics off my iPhone (and later re-syncing same pics), and from the camera, I think Adobe Photoshop Elements is getting them...

try doing a direct copy from the card when you plug it in.

That works fine, but I have to create the folders; sometimes I have several days worth of files to sync up. The directory creation function is pretty neat to keep pics sorted, but I agree that the app is causing the issue.
