Here they are ladies and gentleman, the first photos of the BMW 5 Series GT, Gran Turismo or Progressive Activity Sedan. So what do we have here? A combination between the 7 Series and CS Concept. The BMW 5 Series GT has wheelbase length comparable to the new 7 Series long-wheelbase. As we learned yesterday, due to this, the cabin space is quite large, with lots of legroom and space in the back.

The taillights are similar to the 7 Series, L-shaped and larger than usual. Upfront, BMW continues the trend started by the new 7 Series with a large front-grille. The headlights clearly remind me of the now canceled/postponed BMW CS Concept.

As we expected and guessed, the coupe-rear shape comes from the X6, but with a little bit more headroom. In the back, the hatchback style trunk with the glass that lifts up, is not as bad as some people expected and I believe it fits the car properly. From these photos, we can see the impressive trunk space, something that buyers will enjoy.

That’s it for now, we’ll be back with a more detailed analysis, but so far, we like what we see.

Hope whoever wrote this has vision insurance.

What I don't like: BMW needs to get a better colorist!!! What's up with the interior leather/fabric bs?! Besides those (important) cosmetics, I think it will be great.

P.S. It's past my bedtime:wow:

The Concept CS was cancelled and they butchered it to come up with this strange car. I really don't know what to make of it. It's not as tall as the X5/X6 but looks like a giant hatchback with a coupe like roof. :dunno:

It has it's place. That's for sure. But I think it's pushing into the X6 market.

I can see it having a place. Seriously. Think Audi All-Road. Not an SUV not a sedan.

5 series wagon anyone?

Maybe they should make a 5 Touring then?

What about the POS, uh I mean PAS? Isn't the "not an SUV not a sedan" slot filled with the X6 for the most part?

Grand Turismo - Grand Touring - Grand Schizophrenic?

Is there a difference?

Personally, I like the features they are putting in the car and the fact that it's not "just another wagon".

I think the interior...as it is, looks AWFUL! Sort of Pacer meets Matador, meets gremlin.

BTW a real Gran Turismo(tm) should IMHO have a lower roofline than that. But I would guess that something like Gran Panoramio or so probably sounded too weird...
Other than that, the car is ok... except for details like the already mentioned seat fabric.
Oh, and those wheels! :scared: :tbal:

It's a wagon for a "man" that doesn't want a wagon...according to bmw. Sort of like when the SUV became a lifestyle vehicle - alternate to a minivan..

How do you feel it fits with the X6 in the market? Will it take much from that line?
