What Original Factory Colour Is Your Exhaust System Under The Car?

I’m not talking about the tailpipes.

My 650i’s exhaust system was steel colour, not polished chrome, under the car.

My M6’s exhaust system is deliberately painted black by BMW. Why? Is it because my car’s exterior is dark coloured (Blue Onyx)?
