I have to say that I hope this is the direction that BMW is going to go with most of their lineup. It's amazing!

:thumb: I love it! One beautiful coupe design after another - Concept CS, 1 series coupe (compact proportions), 3 series coupe and now this! So dynamic, so striking. It just KILLS the competiton.

That engine bay looks long enough to house the M3's V8 for sure!

The fixed roof coupe version should look amazing.

:wow: How nice is the design, look forward to seeing it in the flesh :bmw:

Did anyone notice the engine brace, struts going from the shock towers to firewall?

I like it too, apart from that :puke: console shifter we already know from other models... :shake:
But I would never order a slushbox with such a small roadster anyway.

Are the specifications already out? Just wondering how heavy it is, so what an adequate engine would be.

From Motor Trend

2009 BMW Z4 features lightweight two-piece retractable hardtop.
sDrive30i produces 255-hp; sDrive35i produces 300-hp.
Mated to 6-speed manual or an 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.
sDrive35i does 0 to 60 mph in 5 seconds; top speed limited to 130 mph.

Here it is - after all the spy shots and leaks, the 2009 BMW Z4 has been unveiled prior to its 2009 North American International Auto Show debut next month in Detroit. The new 2009 BMW Z4 is more powerful, better looking and combines the roadster and a coupe variants into one model with a two-piece retractable hardtop that folds down in 20 seconds.

With the 2009 BMW Z4, the German automaker is also unveiling its new badging system. Following the whole xDrive theme, the new Z4 will come in a sDrive30i variant and a sDrive35i variant. Both will be available with a 6-speed manual or a dual-clutch 7-speed automatic with paddle shifters. The Z4 sDrive30i is also available with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The 2009 BMW Z4 sDrive30i is powered by a 3.0L inline 6-cylinder engine that makes 255-hp and a maximum torque of 220 lb-ft. 0 to 60 mph comes in at 5.6 seconds when mated to a manual transmission and 6.0 seconds when mated to the optional sport automatic. The 2009 Z4 sDrive35i is powered by the popular 3.0L twin-turbo making a total of 300-hp. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds with a manual and 5.0 seconds with the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. Both models can go up to an electronically limited 130 mph and 150 mph when equipped with the optional Sport Package. The Sport Package features Adaptive M Suspension with Electronic Damping Control.

The M version of the new Z4 will make its debut next year. For now the 2009 BMW Z4 will be produced at the company’s Regensburg plant alongside the 3-Series and the BMW 1-Series. Sales will begin in the fall of 2009.
