I just found a link to a great article: http://magazines.drivers-republic.com/driversrepublic/thetruth030/
It tries to answer the question, can a GT-R circle the Nurburgring in 7:27 and is it faster than a Porsche GT-2? It's a great read for any racing/Nurburgring fan. There are some linked vids in the article as well.
I'll let you read the whole thing or simply skip to page 20 for the answer and page 21 for the conclusion.

I'm confused. The GT-R weighs 1,740kg according to that paper and has 473bhp etc. It can sprint from rest to 100km/h (62mph) in a staggering (claimed) 3.6 seconds!
The M6 coupe (SMG III) weighs practically the same at 1,710kg (BMW/EU basis) and has 507bhp etc. BMW's brochure times from rest to 100km/h is a full one second slower than the GT-R (claimed) at 4.6 seconds.
Either the GT-R numbers are :bs: or it sure has some super sticky tyres with some world class leading electronics. What's going on here?

All wheel drive for superior traction off the line. But I bet without a question, an M6 could take it from 100mph up, maybe even from 60 mph.
I have seen M6 0-60 mph as low as 4.1 seconds. That would put 100km/h at 4.3 or so.

Well then, BMW needs to come up with superior electronics to get us sprinting from rest with our rear wheel drive.
I agree completely: the M6 coupe should KILL THE DAMN THING from a rolling start. The high-revving V10 should kill it. I'm not having a car that cost that much less kill the M6. :electric:

What are the torque numbers for each? That's so important in the 0-60 times vs hp numbers.

But at the end of the race, you are sitting pretty in a gorgeous German work of art, while the "winner" is in a Datsun.

Well, isn't the Skyline just a modern 240 Z?

That's the difference between HP and Torque. Torque is off the line power and the GTR has 430 lb/ft between 3200 and 5200 rpm. That's off the line power. Compare that with the M6. 383 lb/ft at 6100 rpm. So it doesn't hit it's off the line power as soon as the GTR. Couple that with AWD on the GTR and you'll get that power to the ground faster to get going.
But yeah, I would tend to agree that the 60-100mph is probably faster in the M6.

Not at all!!! The skyline is one of the few japanese cars that really has a history to it.
the Skyline was originally produced by Prince Motor Company in the late 50's.

Nissan didn't come into the picture for the skyline until Prince Merged with Nissan in the mid 60s.

Agree. M6 has 520Nm at around 6,100rpm. The GT-R has 588Nm early at 3,200rpm; not a whole lot more, but early with AWD. That's why I am willing to bet that from a rolling start, the M6 should kill the GT-R. At high speeds, the M5/M6 will pull very hard.

I'm not sure if it would kill it, but that big V10 would certainly be able to pull away. It wouldn't be like the Pagani Zonda Vs the Veyron or anything.
