Worse than the BMW?

That can't be...unless you push a button and a print out of a DOT MATRIX map comes out of the dash.

Much, much worse. Here's why: there is no "map" display to speak of. It merely shows a generic "heading down a highway" perspective until a turn is called for, then there's a generic turn graphic. Utterly useless in complex autobahn interchanges, etc. And it carries over the iDrive scrolling alphanumeric entry mode which IMO is clunky compared to the touchscreen entry on my portable Tom Tom.

Yesterday I had occasion to run a bake off between the two entry modes. It was seconds for the touch-screen vs minutes for the scrolling. Then I got to listen to dueling voice commands between the two units as they suggested slightly different routings. It was like an electronic cat fight:scared::greenlaff::greenlaff:

Anyway, there's no way a manufacture could get away with putting such a crappy GPS in a luxury car sold in the US. This C220 must have a downscale GPS that's only available outside the US.

If I could rip the iDrive out of my 6er and install an Alpine unit, I would do it in a heartbeat!
