What if this is the new 2009 BMW Z4?

Here is a rendering by the guys at Autoexpress of the new 2009 BMW Z4. Sources close to BMW told us that the rendering is not 100% accurate but they're not too far away from the "truth".

In my opinion, if the new Z4 will turn out to be similar to the above rendering, then….I'm ALL FOR IT.
Let me ask you two questions:
1. What do you think of it?
2. Is BMW going into the right direction with their latest released and future models?

Don't touch it :nono1:. I like it the way it is. Huge improvement over the current model which never did anything for me.

Yeah I like that, would want to see the back end, to see what they did different.

I like it as well as the new direction BMW styling is taking. I think we all liked the CS concept and many things are carrying over to new models. I like the lights on new ones. At first, I didn't like the larger kidneys on the 7er, but they quickly grew on me.

Not the real thing. We've already seen the overall shape of the next Z4. It's called the GINA. Only the lights and bumpers await us.

an interesting thought occurred when drooling over Bear's M6 the other day which prompts this question.
Do you think BMW will utilize fabric on parts of the car before they release a full fabric car? the parts that I could see useful in fabric are....
trunk
hood
front fenders
this would give the car some flexibility, lighter weight and more of a controled rigitity.
does BMW plan on releasing a car that is a hybrid of the fabric technology?

Not anytime soon. GINA was a concept, though maybe silly but at least innovative. Maybe one day we'll be driving biotech cars! :scared:

If you think about the support structures (akin to the fabric of a Zepplin stretched over the metal skeleton) or, in the case of the Gina, the supports plus the hydraulic actuating motors, I don't think there would be much weight savings, vis a CF, aluminum, or thermoformed component. For a comparable rigity, a lot of skeleton would be needed - I'm not seeing how fabric would contribute to rigity. One plus, door dings and rock chips would be a thing of the past.

my thought on the rigidity was a variable rigidity. You could manipulate the strength and dynamics of the body more easily. Also the wondrous part of the GNIA is the fact you can fluidly change the aerodynamics for high speed cornering or straight line cruise. you could change lanes just from changing the aerodynamics.
I think servo technology with titanium structure would yield a weight reduction.
Leave the doors, front and rear bumpers alone.
just my 2.5 cents
We've been doing this for years with ISMA SuperModifieds. Go to about 4 minutes into the movie and see how the wing is linked to the vacuum on the intake. menthol, 800hp, 1700lbs... :woot: - 6dinan, we're going...right?

:dunno: maybe so, but your 2.5 cents is worth at least a nickle in speculation and thought.
BTW, my dad had a team - raced from Florida to Wisconsin and Texas to Maryland until a heart attack put the kabosh on it. I know what you're talking about with 800hp methanol burners.

1. What do you think of it?
I like it a lot. The line look good. I always thought the roadster should have deep defining lines to give it's long bonnet and side profile character.
The front fascia is 3er esq. and I think what the new Z4 will look like is the refreshed LCI 3er with newer lamps, and a CS-like side marker.
I like the line on the side rear but I too would like to see a rendering of that one.
2. Is BMW going into the right direction with their latest released and future models?
