Need to get oil until I get an oil change

I own a 2003 530i that uses the BMW synthetic oil..I konw this is a 5w-30 oil, although from reads on another forum..it is slightly different than other 5w-30 weights

I need to add a quart until I can get scheduled for an oil change(and ugh a service engine soon light)...
can I add a quart of another synthetic oil just for short term use as it will all get changed out in the next 1-2 weeks

Any 5W 30 is acceptable as long as it is synthetic.

I recommend topping up with a BMW Longlife synthetic oil which is formulated differently than non-LL synthetics. Mobile 1 0W-40 LL-01 is commonly available at Autozone, at least in socal.

I've yet to see LL-04 oils, a more advanced formulation for diesels. You can find the BMW LL spec on the back of the container.

My car 97 e39 523i ( so your motor should be the m52), I know my mechanic puts in, it's valvoline SynPower Full Synthetic Motor Oil, I assume valvoline is state side, been using that oil for two years, changes ever 6 months for my car.

So adding a decent branded oil wont bother it.

Yes this is the beater so to speak....my wife thinks so, she hit my son's bike twice(2 separate occasions, I figured after the first scratch she had learned not to do that again:shitfan:) that is hanging on a bike rack in the garage...she dented the left front the second time, so I now need body work:scared:.

It was my fault this happened because I got after her for not giving my room to ge tthe other car in the garage:wow:
