The rumored BMW X6 //M version was spotted by our Australian fellows at CarAdvice.com.au. Just a couple of days ago, we announced that BMW has registered the X6 M trademark, which was clear sign that the sport version of the X6 is in works already.
Of course, typical BMW, the X6 M has not been officially confirmed, but judging from the spy photos, it is clear that we are dealing here with the Motorsport model. The clues? The typical M dual-exhaust and especially the more obvious side vents.
Rumors have it the the BMW X6M will be powered by a 5.0-litre V10 with 373kW and 520Nm of torque, even though we believe that a twin-turbo engine will be more suitable for the job. The 4.4 V8 Twin-Turbo can be the ideal choice. The car already weighs around 5,000 lbs and placing a heavy V10 engine in it, would not make much sense.
Time will tell again and at this point, everyone can only speculate. The rumored BMW X6 //M version was spotted by our Australian fellows at CarAdvice.com.au. I guess we'll know BMW's future path based on what's done with the X6. It seems to be leading the pack for new offerings, e.g. the first with the TTV8. If we see the high performance TTV8 in the X6 M, we'll know what's coming for the M5 and M6.

Alright, alright. I'll let you into a little secret. If you look very closely at that test mule, the driver behind that wheel is none other that 650iOzBoy himself.

You must be lowering your standards, Oz. Either that or you know the X6M has a V12.

Not necessarily. In the past, BMW chose the 4.6is in the X5 over the E39 5.0 V8 due to "lack of low end torque" and the S62 blows away the S85 in low end torque. It might be fun on a race track to have a high strung motor in a heavy SUV but it would be a drag around town.
Nothing says ///M can't further develop the V8 TT for an X6 M and continue down the V10 path for the next gen M5/M6...

Didn't I see a post saying the V10 was to be obsoleted? I was basing my thoughts on that...

If I recall, that was a post from some "autoblog" or something. I take it as nothing more than here say or un-substantiated rumor. If I recall, no one KNEW the E60 M5 would be a V10 until BMW officially announced it.
EDIT: I would belive a bigger V10 first. It could be a TT V8 but that is counter to anything BMW has said or hinted at for the Ms. Also, I don't think BMW would limit it to 530hp from an enlarged 5.0 liter. Why even bother with turbos at that low of boost and specific output. <- HINT: Alpina can get 500hp from 4.4 liter easily.

Here is a very good review of the "regular" X6, which is now making its way down here. The writer thinks this is the best handling 4WD he has driven so far.
