Bangle No More: The 2009 BMW 7-series Unveiled in July?

Even under heavy camouflage, it's easy to see that the lines of the 2009 BMW 7-series are tighter and cleaner, echoing the 3-series and the CS Concept, with less of the controversial styling from BMW's Chris Bangle. While the changes to the new car aren't dramatic, they should improve an already impressive vehicle.

The new 7-series, rumored to be unveiled on July 7 of this year, will be based off the company’s new platform, designated F01. The big Bimmer will share this architecture with the next generation 5- and 6-series, including a possible successor to the flagship crown, a future 8-series. A host of technological gizmos make their way into the '09 7-series; Massaging seats, an advanced night vision system, a reworked iDrive system, radar cruise control and an eight-speed transmission. In a market segment where more tech equals better, the 7-series certainly brings a big gun to the fight.

When it goes on sale in early 2009 as a 2010 model, expect prices to range somewhere between $80,000 for the entry level model and $130,000 for the range topper. On paper, the new 7-series looks like a winner, but the true test of BMW's improvements will come when it hits the road. And while it isn't a beautiful car, it is less Bangled. I hope we get some unmasked pictures soon and can see if the jumbo kidneys remain. IMO, those are too big and are downright fugly.

BTW, I happen to like the Bangle influences.

:stupid:

Just like I didn't like BMW at first, the Bangle butt grew on me.

The F01 won't be very different in terms of styling compared with the current model. Bangle and team's design philosophy has evolved but the theme is till there. They will make the F01 look more conservative and less flamboyant. For a more extroverted big ego sporty car though, I'm afraid you and I will have to wait two or three years.

What I really want to know are the specifications for the N74 V12.

Well, the V12 engine will be a 1.6L, it will burn hydrogen gas, and it will achieve 56 HP and 34 ft lbs of torque. A real stump puller.
