Ok..I am not handy at all..in fact my wife laughs when I try almost any task that requires tools...
mind you my wife has a Window treatment business( drapes, corniches, upholestry work etc..small business to keep her busy..she is vert talented...ok I am very proud of her and her work)..she does most all of the power tool work in my house
http://www.picturetrail.com/thonickman

any of you listen to Bubba the Love Sponge on Howard 101..she is doing some work for his wife Heather Clem..ok I digress

I set out to hide the wires best I could..I am still using the cig lighter plug on the passenger foot well...ran the wires up the side door jam under the felt like matertial till I got to the top and then tried to slide it around the harder plastic material near the windshield seen in PIC #4..kinda makes this not as flush...Not sure if I should remove and get a pro to do it....no hardwiring for me..figure it would cost me a few thousand $$$ in repairs
I also have a remote display that I removed the panel under driver's footwell to hide the wires..yes I removed 3 screws and got them back in place ok...

One issue I have is the cord is just short...probably because I was not efficient with slack...and it barely reaches on the left hand side placement....this prevents virtually any movement of the rearview mirror...
Not sure if I can get a good placement on the right hand side so that I can reach volume knob if needed

Any suggestions or ideas would be great

I am a little concerned the supid cord was too to hide under the thicker plastic

My V1 install is virtually identical to yours, nealh. I have the same small piece of wire exposed in the upper right corner of the windwhield. I did my install twice - once with the cord supplied by Valentine, which I found too short as well. The second time, following CD's advice from his post at bf.c, with a longer, thinner cord I got a Radio Shack. The V1 uses standard modular phone cords which are available everywhere. I don't remember if the one that comes with the V1 is 6' and I got a 9' or if it's 9' and I got a 12. The extra length made my install much better - allowed my to move the V1 more to the left (no interference with the mirror) and less strain on the cord in the footwell. I did have excess cord which I easily hid in the top of the footwell.

If the V1 is 8' then I must have bought a 12. You really don't need a part number, just get a 12' black modular phone cord - the thinnest they have. You could also get it at Best Buy, Lowes, Wally World or wherever...RS was closest for me.

:fotosign: Nice job, Neal. :thumb: I'm thinking of doing the same thing on my 6er. Just need to pull the trigger on V1 purchase (still use the old fashion X50).

I love the V1..it is more chirper from what I hear vs the Passport 9500..I made some setting changes to allow for less falses on the K band from pharmacies

I like d the V1 becasue as tested it still overall seems most sensitive..not by alot but I love the idea of getting upgrades at reasonable price vs having to buy anew unit

I know the Passport 9500 supposedly has a usb port for "upgrades" but I yet to hear they have implemented its use.....some of the nice feature on the passport 9500 seemed to require me tinkering a bit too much..I went with a remote display and paid $450 for the V1 and I can mute on it or prior on the main unit..in the 6 series its placement on the left made that very easy

I think the 9500 is excellent detector as well..probably as good as the V1 :youbet:

Looks just like my install except I had mine wired into the roof area right by the mirror. Put my remote display in the same place.

Maybe I've done something wrong, but we powered ours straight from the domelight up on the top next to the mirror. You have to find out which wire is "switched" but it wasn't hard. We only needed about 12 inches at the most using the standard V1 hardwire kit they give with the detector. It powers off with the key also... Took my son about 15 minutes to do it from start to finish. BTW, like the remote indicator down between the gauges/steering wheel. Might have to consider that in the future.

Lastly, the ONLY gripe I have with the V1 is the lack of a GPS so it could mark false alarms and turn them off on a daily commute. I think that would make the V1 perfect if they could incorporate that into the next model.

But how did you connect the remote display?

Anyway..as my luck goes the 12 ft phone cord I got did not power the V1(GE branded cord)...I could not find 12ft at RS in black only 25ft..so ended up at Home Depot and bought the only 12ft black cord...but it did not owrk

So I pulled up some of the slack on the 8ft cord from Valentine and I got the 2 inches I needed

I can not tell a lie...I had my stereo shop do the entire thing. They did a flawless job.
