The most exciting item is #1. The High Intake Air Induction System alone boosts horse power by 18HP. It was just released. Below is a description on this item:
550 & 650 High Flow Intake Systems Now Available!
Dinan's high flow intake system for 550 and 650 models dramatically increases intake air-flow volume and velocity as well as ensuring the lowest possible intake air temperatures for maximum power gains, as well as improved throttle response.

The system takes full advantage of the ram-air effect by adding a second air inlet in conjunction with the stock configuration, force feeding more cool, oxygen rich air to the enhanced air box. The system includes a complete replacement air box and lid, designed to increase overall volume and accommodate the additional air inlet. A special high flow filter element is included, reducing the restriction presented by the stock filter. The air box and lid are molded from a composite material that has been chosen specifically for its ability to resist power robbing under-hood heat and the design provides for a completely sealed air box, maximizing pressurization for optimum performance. Air from the secondary inlet passes through custom molded ducting, including a visible section manufactured from carbon fiber, also designed to reject underhood heat and provide maximum flow.

The high flow intake system alone produces a substantial 18 horsepower gain. The intake note takes on a subtly more aggressive tone at wide open throttle that will be music to the driving enthusiasts' ears.

Features and Benefits
Dual Air Intake Ducts-
Secondary Inlet forces more air through the intake system, improving efficiency and performance.

Maximum Efficiency-
The system has been designed using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and a Digital Manometer for the best possible air flow, as well as effective water separation for maximum performance and reduced engine wear.

Composite Air Box and Lid-
The replacement air box and lid increase overall volume and are manufactured using a special plastic composite material that is highly effective as an insulator, reducing the power robbing effects of under-hood heat. The lid completely seals the air box for maximum pressurization and further heat insulation, maximizing performance.

Molded Plastic and Carbon Fiber Inlet Ducting-
Custom molded inlet ducting is also manufactured from plastic, providing maximum flow and insulation from under-hood heat. Precision manufacturing ensures a perfect fit and clean appearance. The visible portion of the ducting is manufactured from carbon fiber for an elegant high performance look and effective insulation.

High Flow Filter Element-
The system employs a high performance air filter element that flows more air than the stock filter, while maintaining more than adequate filtration properties to protect the engine. Filter replacement is as easy as for the stock unit.

Accommodates High Flow Air Mass Meter-
The system has been designed for use with the soon to be released High Flow Air Mass Meter for further increases in power output at minimal cost.

I'm placing my order today and all of the work should be completed by mid-January. The work is being done by HabberstadBMW in Huntington, Long Island. I had a previous BMW X5 3.0i that also had some DINAN stuff installed by them and they did a great job!!! :bravo:

You know what I think of mods like this on warranty issues, and I am also a skeptic as to performance. (Sceptic for Ozzyboy and AusBMW guys.) So, I would ask you do 2 things first.

1. Do some 0-60 and 0-100 runs and establish what it will do with you behind the wheel. :scared:

2. Put it on a dyno and establish what the machine says its HP rating is.

Then do the mods and test again. My feelig is that the 5% HP gain is within the "margin of error" and that you won't have any true changes for the $2400 in parts plus who knows how much in installation, but that your bottom will think you have gotten huge gains.

Hey aalonso,

Sounds like a Dinan plan. When are you getting this all done, again? I apologize if you mentioned it in your original post but through all the marketing I got lost. :-P

But really, It all sounds good! I can't wait to see the performance gains they project. You only live across the Hudson from where I live so it should not be really hard to meet and see with my very own eyes... I'll be in NY tomorrow, will you have your mods complete by then..?

I agree with Mal, it would be interesting to get an independent verification of numbers. Everyone here knows I'm a Dinan disciple, but I'm not sure you'll notice 18HP difference... I have a 645 with a few Dinan goodies, and the things I notice the most have nothing to do with the HP - #1 is the suspension (though I still can't stay on one side of the line all the time), #2 is the diff... Not sure either or both of those are available for the 650, but if they are, check 'em out. I love the exhaust sound, but again, not sure how much of a performance difference that really makes. I never had the original to compare it to; very interested in your results. I do think the intake and exhaust should be paired if available... Good luck!

GBelton, I will be getting everything hopefully by mid-January.. The dealer is ordering all of the parts first, then my service manager will call to set up an appointment... I can't wait. On my previous X5 3.0, I had the throttle body, stage 3 software and exhaust and let me tell you and it makes a great difference.. It sort of wakes the car up and you can feel it and most important "enjoy it" fully. I highly recommend this upgrade.. I know it is a bit pricey compared to other mods, but you can't go wrong with Dinan...

Well, I got my car this morning. The entire labor as originally stipulated took only 1 day - 7 labor hours. No issues with the software reprogram [Stage 3] and everything else was just a hardware install. To start with, the engine bay now looks like a work of art, with beautiful carbon fiber pipe details, a very nice and strong carbon fiber strut bar, and the high air intake induction with a big D and carbon fiber finishes. It is just gorgeous. Now some of you might be thinking that I am a little nuts with this fruity stuff, however in regards to horse power and feel; the car is a beast. As soon as you step on the gas, you feel the extra HP surge. The software has also raised the shift points for SMG and you do feel a great difference. When driving in non-sport mode, the SMG tranny shifts gracefully with NO LAG whatsoever and when you switch to sport mode, FORGETABOUTIT, it just launches forward like rocket. The software does a great job downshifting with the sound (blip) which is just great. Pardon me if my excitement is sort of fogging my writing clarity but this is a great car with a great modification... it almost feels like an entry level M6.... now for the stats, total HP to the back wheels as tested on a dyno is:......388 HP...Now you can say that this is too expensive for such little gain, well I say to you.. Dinan will not disrupt the warranty which is the most important aspect of this work aside from the quality of their products and the ability for a BMW Tech to be available to diagnose and work with their products. Again I highly recommend Dinan.. Now I am just waiting for my Dinan Badge, which is set to arrive next week..I'll be posting pics of my engine bay by this weekend.... :bravo:
