The BMW X6 xDrive35i will be powered by a 3.0L inline 6-cylinder engine that produces 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. The xDrive50i will be powered by a 4.4L V8 engine that produces 400 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. Both models come with twin-turbo and direct injection. 0-60 for the xDrive50i comes in at 5.3 seconds.
Will these be named the X635i and X650i or X6x35i or X6xDrive50i or what? I figured a 4.4 liter version of any BMW would be a "#45?" - but how does a 4.4 litre become a "#50", TT or not??? Does this signal an end to BMW's model nomenclature as we know it?

That aside, isn't the X6 more of a 3 door "hatchback" than anything else? Seating for 4 - the rear two probably cramped, doesn't really come to mind when talking about SUVs.

I believe the official names are X6 35i and X6 50i. I don't think they are together anywhere. It is a 2+2 5 door hatchback in my book. As much a coupe as the MB CLS. I think its market is for those that want AWD with more utilitity than a sedan can offer maintaining sportiness without the size & bulk of an SUV or the supposed stigma of a station wagon. I'd be suprised to see more than 10k sales per year but you never know. The 4.4 turbo might kick start it for those not wanting to wait for the F models.

EDIT: Depending on pricing, the X6 might be on my short list for an X3 replacement. I don't need or want a big SUV, just something with a little utility or winter ability on ocassion. I would prefer a 3er wagon if it had the 3.0 TT or a bit more room in the back and don't want a second 5er.

I agree. I do plan on keeping the ///M6 for at least 4 years or so, depending on the new 'concept' vehicle or a Z9. But, I think the X6 will be very interesting. Maybe when I go to M school, I'll get a chance to drive one!

I didn't much like the X5 colour choices, so I got the 535xiT with the Deep Sea Blue (though if Montego Blue had been available that would have been my first choice; now the BMW websitre won't let you build a 535xiT in blue except Monaco, which is too dark for my tastes). The 535xiT is almost as quick and handles almost as well as my old 650i rattlebox, so it's a pleasure to drive when I'm not driving the M6. The cockpit is laid out the same and everything can be programmed to be the same, too. While I suppose the X6 will be that way as well, at the time I got it the 553xiT was a good choice for me and I'm very hppy with it. It's not the hulking brute that an SUV (okay, BMW, SAV) would be.

I found the X6 brochure online. No pricing yet. The X6 is as big as the X5. I was hoping it would be a bit smaller and lighter. Here it is: http://resource.bmwusa.com/Pdf_9aec1379-2539-48e1-a6d6-bb335af904eb.arox

Not only Interlagos Blue, but Indianapolis Red, Phoenix Yellow, and Alpine White!

BTW, this was the family truckster from National Lampoons' Vacation.
