Hello,
I think I have the time to get the latest iDrive software installed in my car. While I have small issues, I wonder if someone know the major hassles in the version cira Mar '07 so I can cite them as reasons for the update under warranty.

Thanks,

Not sure what happened, but today my iDrive didn't even come on. I drove the car for about 20 min...and nothing. I parked...had a Starbucks and viola` when I started the car...it was back. FREEEEEKY! Maybe it was low on espresso?

What "small issues" do you have? Those are usually enough to get an upgrade, e.g. CD run-on. Cobradav is the man to answer this question.

CD run-on has been fixed with 25.00 which was released around march 07. If I remember correctly that release could mess up the TMC/RTT feature, that was fixed with 25.01

Cobradav has published the 27.00 fix list here:

Lord Bear, this is some :scared: stuff. What if it wasn't a Starbucks, but something else? :scared:

Really no major issues since the March release of v25.xx.xx. Most issues have been releated to entertainment area, FM, iPod, etc. If you are not having those issues I would not bother updating at this time. However, if you are in service for any complaint and they find any fault requiring update you will get it even if you do not want it.

I have seen many reports, in recent times of similar instances. No one fix, but my suspicion is corrupted boot file or weakened CCC or other module. Several reports of the update process actually causing a module to go bad but normally at the time of update. Makes me wonder though if this can be overlooked by the techs or if there is a latent caused defect.

I think you are going to see more of these, Bear.

Have you posted them yet? I don't like the way the 550i jumps to "now playing" with the iPod on restart and looses the playlist that you were on. I bet that was done to fix the folks that didn't like starting over their "books on iPod" (that 25.01 did) but surely they could find a way to resume a song in a playlist. FYI, the 550i's born-on date is 7/07 so it should be fairly current.

Yep,

Although there is no later SIB on CIPs I have other sources that indicate very, very minor updates for SOS inactive warning and coding for new model features (not relative to older models).

So, what do you think I should do? Should I mention it to my SA just so it is "on record" with them?

I think you should,I mean it didn't come on,so some thing might be slowly going,it's good to get every thing on record regardless of what it is,when it comes to new cars.

Yep, even if you don't bring it in right away. You may find that BMW actually has something in hand to fix that particular symptom. Even when I do not turn in right away, I keep a running log and take pics (when I can) for proof (trying to take the guess work out of the equation) so I can more fully try to help service folks in TS. Also you can see if it is getting worse with real data not just your butt dyno, so to speak.

Great advice. I'll ring them up when I get back home next week. Thanks!
