F1’s McLaren to be Stripped of Constructor’s Points, Fined $100 Million! Ouch!! :finger:

Admitting Thursday that they had indeed broken FIA regulations with regard to possession of technical data belonging to longstanding Formula One rival Ferrari, Team McLaren Mercedes has been stripped of all championship points and been handed a $100 million fine.

The FIA World Motor Sport Council’s decision practically ensures that Ferrari will walk away with the constructor’s championship this season… a championship that was headed McLaren’s direction until now.

McLaren drivers Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso (currently one and two respectively in the driver’s championship) will not be penalized, and may continue their quest for victory with four races to go.

After initially clearing McLaren of charges in July, the FIA reported that new evidence had surfaced (the details of which have not yet been made available) pointing to the guilt of the racing team.

No report yet as to whether or not McLaren will appeal the decision.

Ferrari = Some whining B**ches! :purple: Now they get the Number One spot even though they did not earn it, technically speaking.

BMW will inherit 2nd place, whoopie. :finger:

That's BMW Sauber please - BMW is basically 'only' the engine and gearbox supplier!
(I live about a 20 minute drive from the team headquarters)

Yes they have acquired Sauber and through tradition of F1, they keep the name but be sure my friend, :bmw: is the SHOW and best believe they're running it Full Throttle too. 8-)

So, tell us a little about your neighbor.

Well, we're talking about 300 employees and the jobs in that international team are very sought after. The major part of them has been working for years for the old Sauber Petronas team. I.e. Willy Rampf, the Technical Director has been with Sauber since their F1 debut back in 1993. Those guys developing the current engines and the powertrain are still working at BMW Motorsport in Munich.

However it's quite an interesting fact that apparently not horsepower is the key factor for success in F1 today, but aerodynamics!
So the major reasons for the improving success of that team can be contributed to:
- The new wind tunnel, a 60M$ project completed in 2004 (still during the old Sauber-Petronas era)
- 'Albert2', which was the fastest industrial supercomputer in Europe when it went into service end of 2006 (also used for aerodynamics and simulations)
- the additional $$$ from BMW allowing 3 shifts in the wind tunnel today (as opposed to one shift 2 years ago)
- and of course BMW's current P86/7 engine which is performing very well this season

Agreed! :race: I would like to see a little more HP though, The B**ches and Mercedes pull through with ease; Aero included!

But wasn't it Enzo himself who said (and I am paraphrasing of course)something about aerodynamics being for those that could not build engines?

Yeah that's all well and good, but there's a fine line between hp and reliability.

To finish first, first you must finish.

Finish you must. :bmw: hasn't has any problems the last 13 rounds... 14th tonight.

Now as for the others, that's another topic-so, more HP and a continued Aero excellence would be appreciated by this F1 fan.

Yeah, I just read that some where also. Kinda funny too.

Maybe car makers are reaching a point where there is only so much finite power you can out into a car, without ending up with an aeroplane.
