View Full Version : Is Your 6er a Keeper?
I was wondering. How many of you out there believe the 6er is a keeper. How many of you will buy another 6er?
I'll setup a poll.

I'll keep my current until the '09's are out then decide. Unless something truly amazing shows up between now and then, I will be getting another 6er.
Interesting... I thought about putting in '09 but I didn't think owners change so quickly withing 2 years (Knowing a NEW 6 will arrive in '11) unless they are unhappy or getting such a great deal like Mal did! ( :bmw: buy back). ;-)
This is my quandary. I love the 6er, no doubt but I want something different (Design wise) which is my reason for seeking out the Aston, Maserati, and though it sounds insane the Bentley. But reality checks in once again... Does it make sense? :-?
I'll just go get a reliable HONDA and be done with it! :greenlaff: :youbet:
Okay, back to the real world! :knight2: :knight2:

I'd like to wait and see what's 2011 be like. For now, I'm enjoying my "beast" as I ( :race: ) drive it almost 130 ml each day. :)

Mine will be ~4 years old in the mid-2009 build cycle. I like my 6er, but I can't see driving it an additional 2 years so I can get the '11 model. I would like to avoid a 1st year production so 3 more years down the road I'll be looking to get a mid '12 build which will allow a few bugs (if there are any) to be worked out of the new design.
Hey GMAN
cant vote, you've forgotten your other brothers, those that are really smart (aassess that is)! :sht:
....the leasers out there!!
i believe the 6er is a keeper for as long as my lease is, and i believe i want another when my lease is up; however, i would never buy another bmw again, as anyone should know, lease is the only way to go in the world of Mobile CPUs (formerly known as automobiles ;-)
these cars are WORTHLESS without a FULL MAINT warranty, so no one should ever consider actually owning one out of warranty....to lessen the work involved, i've taken a long term lease (4years) so i could sit back and enjoy just as if i owned
however when the time comes, i'll just give her a big kiss goodbye :ball: , and not think about the significant losses sustained trying to trade the car in that has been redesigned (err refreshed) and re-engined in only its second year as usual (foolish BMW never fails to annoy us all!) , or (gasp) trying to actually sell one privately...the financials surely work in my favor, (ive done the math many times, no worries!!!) and i'll just look towards my new baby with the same big smile as when i picked up this one!
logic dictates never to OWN!!! :old:

Buy vs. Lease? Logic?
That's debatable...
I much prefer to own my cars.
Ah yes, you are correct. I did consider putting in the lease (Option) but I did not want to start an off topic conversation about which is better and who can really benefit from buy versus lease.
I decided to break the options into 3 year intervals '08, then '11...
I do wish there was a way to modify Polls though... :-|

I'll keep this one for a while, but I doubt I would buy another one.

...surely debatable :electric: i did not specify whos logic of course... :levitate:
though i assure you that from a pure economic point of view (no tax loopholes considered) the lease is the better financial option :shitfan:

+1, even out of warranty, to keep a 6 series for 3 more years, is far cheaper than paying another $36k for another 3 years worth of lease payments.
Nothing wrong with buying or leasing a car IMO. Leases on 6/7 series tend to suck compared to mainstream consumer grade cars like the 3/5 series. The main reason I bought my 6 is because there is no significant changes coming until at least 2011 and even then the new body remains quite the same. Another reason is it takes a good year or two to work out all the bugs. I am in no mood to do that again.
However, after 5 BMW's I would be surprised if I bought another one. I think by the time is up on my 6 I will be looking at other cars unless BMW comes out with something to wow me. So far I have not seen it. They have been in the small, medium, large motor mode prostituting the M badge for so long with nothing earth shattering.

What might be an alternative? Mercedes-Benz are coming up with hot guns these days, beefing up their AMG range like never before. When you really think about it, if you value driving dynamics, luxury & cutting edge automotive engineering, there are not that many leaders around. Many have the styling requisites but not the substance (no, we're not talking about women). BMW and Benz are pretty much it. Audi and Lexus might come up with a few. Then you go into supercar exotics territory but I don't buy garage queens.
There is no real significant change with the E63/E64, as one might expect for a relatively low volume production car in the BMW range. I guess the most significant was the engine upgrade of the 645Ci to 650i, even that was a modest 45kW increase. (The 6 cylinder versions are not available for sale here). The M6 will keep its mighty V10.
So, I'm keeping my 650i until the F-something Individual 675i (V12 bi-turbo expected to rate at 495kW ~ 675bhp and 1,000Nm of torque) comes out, as far as BMW cars are concerned.
My 650i is my first BMW and I'm pretty happy with the damn thing.

I'll happily keep my 6er until the lease is out (about two more years). When that time comes I may want to try something a little different. What? Well it will have to have RWD or AWD, a manual transmission with a clutch pedal, =>300 bhp, sat nav, iPod and Bluetooth connexions, and room for guitar (and bass) cases. I'll have to look at what's available then.
