I participated in Jonathans poll he had up on e60.net and added some comments as well.

I posted the link above before I had even read the first paragraph on Jonathans article. After reading the whole thing and looking at some of the comparison pics I am even more impressed with the iDrive implemetation by BMW. Sure there are trade offs as there always have to be, but not as many as others are making. And BMW is certainly learning as it has been improved (maybe in a 2 steps forward, 1 back kinda way). It was an article that needed to be done and I am glad Jonathan took on the task. I mentioned to him that I would hope it gets a wider audience than just our BMW family. It deserves to be read by a far greater audience.

Thanks to Jon

:stupid:

I think BMW is at the top. I couldn't see myself handling the MB navigation system or any of the porsche controls. I-drive has won me over. I also like AUDI's MMI system...
Thanks Dave, interesting read.

Very good write up and describing the evolution of iDrive 1.0 to is current version.

I have to agree that the iDrive has made interfacing with the car much better IMO. I started with the initial launch of the iDrive in the 2002 745Li and I have been fortunate enough to see and use first hand all of BMW's iDrive iterations. It has been a work in progress but the progress has been for me more good than bad... :blah: :youbet:

Nuff said, good contribution to the article Cobradav.

Let's be clear here. My only contribution was to participate in the poll. The comments I made were not in any way a contribution to the article. They were just :blah:

Thank you for posting the article. One of the best I've read about iDrive.

Generations 2 and 3 are similar. Generation 1 is different. I think iDrive is one of BMW's best innovations in concept.

Who's Chuck Kelly? Never heard of him.

Ah, my error, your mistake. :)

Good article though.
