Is it possible to retrofit BT in an '04 745Li? We currently have the snap-in cradle and the wife is ugrading from the V60 snap-in phone to a V3 Razr. Even if it is possible, would it be worth it? We'll be updgrading the 7er a year from now.

Try Bimmernav. I looked into their bluetooth kit for the M5. I think they wanted $700 for it versus <$400 it appears for the E65 kits. http://www.bimmernav.com/BMW_E65_Bluetooth_Retrofit.html

You're right Richard, thanks...$395 for their BT kit for an '04 e65. Does anyone have any experience with this company or their products?

I have the Mercedes Benz retrofit for my V60 Motorola (now long obsoleted) which looks pretty much the same and is BT enabled. I do not have access to all the features I had on the V60. For example, no strength of signal indicator, no ability to use stored DTSM tones except manually, re-dial for dropped calls that cannot be controlled (unless BT is turned off and on or the phone is similarly cycled), limited voice recognition, inability to store 2-digit codes for stored numbers as with the old V60.

Seems like a new 7er would be the better deal 8-)

Or you could try the BMW solution.

BMW is pleased to announce a revolutionary new product that allows customers with any CPT9000 hands-free phone system to update their vehicles to use Bluetooth® wireless technology with one simple device. The Bluetooth® Upgrade Module (BTUM) is shaped exactly like a CPT9000 (Motorola V60 series) phone and is installed into the phone cradle in place of the original CPT9000 handset. It provides the link between an approved Bluetooth® phone and the vehicle’s original phone system. Up to 2 different phones can be paired with the BTUM; however, only one can be used with the system at a time. The BTUM allows the customer to continue to use the original functions of the phone system in the vehicle but now with a BMW approved compatible Bluetooth® phone.

These features include:
• Multi function steering wheel telephone controls (MFL), if equipped, to send or end a call

• Display the address book of an approved phone and dial a stored number (500 contacts per phone)
• Telephone dialing via the on board radio controls or iDrive (as equipped)
• Voice recognition SES (if equipped) dialing and name tags
Important: The BTUM module does not power or charge the phone handset or provide a link to an external antenna. Please refer to owner’s manual for additional important information. While Bluetooth® wireless technology is a global standard; there are a variety of profiles that manufacturers can choose to implement in their Bluetooth® devices. In certain cases, the BMW BTUM and the Bluetooth® mobile phone do not share the necessary profiles to work together as a hands-free system. For this reason, not all available Bluetooth® phones are compatible with the BTUM.

The list of compatible phones that have been tested with this system are provided below:

Motorola E815, Motorola V3c Razr, Motorola V551, Motorola V330, Nokia 6230, Sony Ericsson T637, Sony Ericsson S710a.

BMW part number is: 84 11 0 410 145 and it is supposed to retail for $295.00

These have been successful in the e60 but I do not have direct knowledge on the e65/66 series, but should be the same.

Thanks for the info CD. Amazingly, it is $100 less than Brand-X, although, by appearance, it seems to be the identical module. BMW also says it has the same functionality as the V60 when using an approved BT phone, and the Razr V3 is on the list.

I'll go this route.

Boss, I had that in my 7er (MY 2003 745i) and it worked like a charm :phone: . Everything, including caller ID on the iDrive. Just make sure that you use the :bmw: approved BT cell phone :contract: . Well, hope this helps. :thumb:

This may be a better place to post my Q than in the iPhone thread ...

I'm considering purchasing this install and wanted to know what phones people with the BMW Bluetooth Upgrade Module for CPT9000 Phone have used sucessfully with the module.

Any feedback?

I forgot to post results in this thread. I bought the BT module from my dealer ~ $275 with BMWCCA discount. It works like a charm with Ms Boss' Razr. The module snaps into the old V60 slot and has complete functionality. The phone book transfers, the dashboard keypad works, etc. Quite happy with the results.

Here is the site that list BMW approved/tested phones that work with BT.

http://www.wireless4bmw.com/phones2.html

Any phone that is approved work with the retrofit options (BTUM or TCU moded) as well as BMW BT equipped newer models.
