HEY!!!

Great news for BMW driving enthusiasts: The BMW Performance Driving School, based in Spartanburg, South Carolina, brings its high-performance BMW On Location driving instruction to the California Speedway again in 2007, from October 15-25.

BMW On Location offers the one-day California Performance Drive, where participants will have the opportunity to drive a variety of BMWs, including the Z4 M Coupe, and the 500-hp M5 Sedan and M6 Coupe, on the racetrack and at various exercise areas. Drivers will spend half the day lapping the challenging road courses, progressively increasing speed as their skills are developed. The other half-day involves fine-tuning their skid- and spin-control skills, a timed autocross, and an advanced braking/lane-change exercise. This one-day event offers BMW enthusiasts the chance to learn helpful high-performance driving techniques from the pros and experience actual track time, all for $1,495.

Last year’s participants would agree: you don’t want to miss out on this unique and memorable driving event. Class spots are limited, so save your place behind the wheel now by calling 1-888-345-4269, or click the link below to register.

Sounds like fun, but I think I will just go to the one in SC. They don't make you shift manually there.

Bad news for Boxy. He and I had arranged to go to the South Carolina M school just before ToD, and the BMW deities done gone and moved it -- again -- to SoCal.

Well, I would imagine that they ADDED the SOCAL school, so your SC school should still be going on.

Nope. Not that week.

I got an extension for my 6 DE so I'll be in Fontana on Tues, Oct 16th. I'm sure its not as exciting as the SC DE since its only schedule for one day without golf on the second day.

I'm really looking forward to driving the M6 and if I can convince the wife, there may be a trade in the works.

Cucamonga - As a 6er "graduate" to the mighty Beast, I can tell you that you will be very pleased with the M6 if you decide to make the move. However, I didn't much like the M6 tin can on the track. The M5 is, in my view, a slightly better track car for an amateur like me.

Of course, I opted for the M6 rattle box, which is even less of a track car, but I am getting on in age and this was my last chance to get a supercar, and one that was reasonably priced and that could be driven often. But, herein lies the rub. Can the M6 be a daily driver? I think it depends on how far you have to drive, and where you have to drive to. I am beginning to realize that the M6 rattle box is a joy to drive, but it is very involving and requires a lot more concentration than I want to give it if I am, say, on the freeway going to court or a client's office, and have to put on more than 30 miles.

So, the M6 is a bit of an acquired taste, and it does not have the flexibility of the 645Ci/650i. It's a great car to get as long as you have a couple of others in the stable.

Right now I'm enjoying the 535xi station wagon, which is a real freeway cruiser in the CL55 AMG tradition. But I also will look forward to driving the M6 this weekend, too.

Bottom line: If you've got another car or don't have a long commute, the M6 is for you. If not, think hard before you pull the trigger.

Well put! (especially for an :old: )

Don't get me wrong...I like the M6 a lot, but I am VERY thankful that I have other vehicles to drive as well.

Talk about luck...last year Mali and I were going to the 6er DE in SC. (I fiddled around and missed my own DE opportunity.) I was leaving on Sunday to drive to S'burg and Mal was flying from LA. The Friday before was the day the F'ing terrorists decided to take flammable explosive liquids on a plane which resulted in massive lines, flight delays, etc, etc. Mal cancelled and drove to the Cali DE instead.

This year, the M school was planned and then the BMW admin types screwed us out of the SC school and Mal is going to the Cali version. My schedule can't fit in a trip out west when it's happening.

Terrible, I know, but in this case, f'ing terroists are on an equal with f'ing BMW admin types. :censored:
