View Full Version : 60 Minute Ban
You have all by now received an e-mail sent by BMW745on19s. He is a loyal cult member on the other board. I believe he is also the reason why much of our content seems to show up there. Although he is on this board constantly, almost 24/7, he doesn't sign in as a member, but as a guest.
So I gave him a 60-minute ban. Since he sent everyone here a PM he obviously hasn't been "banned" as he contends. Since he's here almost every minute of the day, the 60 minutes must have been quite a problem for him.
However, now's the time to make a decision. Majority rule. Ban him or allow him to continue to lurk?
His comment about somebody stealing Mike_Check's log in, etc., is puzzling and I doubt it is technically feasible.
At any rate, is 745 someone we want to continue to lurk on this site, contributing nothing, while helping his buddies at the commercial site that has as its sole goal making :100: for its owners?
Edit: This should have been a "360 minute ban." Being :old: I thought that I had only banned the IP address for 60 minutes, which the software permits. But apparently it was for 360 minutes. The reasons are explained on page 4, in XMN's post. We have been waiting for our close friends at a commercial site we used to frequent to try to dump our site (a threat made by one of their blue ribbon posters, the well-named BumBMW) and I decided to see who the guest was who was here almost 24/7. Now I know. Indeed, now we all know.

I voted stay - reason. Let him see how a non-commercial board operates. Full and open. Maybe, just maybe he will see the light. And no one here stole Mike_Checks anything. That is a false accusation.

I realize I'm somewhat new and don't have a car quite yet, but I really don't understand his PM in the first place. To be honest guys, I just want straight info and minimal fluff. I work upwards of 60hrs a week, every week, and sifting through some of this can *at times* be a bit tiring. Perhaps I'll get used to it in time. The other forums I visit (ClubLexus & 6Speedonline) are pretty to the point.
Maybe I'm just tired and a bit peeved that I get this strange PM in my e-mail. I'll turn that off for now. My vote is to not ban this user, though he may have an agenda.. banning typically leads to a backlash and it will ripple much longer. Leave him alone and he will likely go away.

While I don't understand his rambling, I do find it unprofessional to shout out unproven allegations to the entire board via PM. :jackit:
Although this behaviour is not ideal, we should avoid banning folks and encourage them to vent in the off topic area.

Your comments on not banning him are convincing. Too bad I can't change my vote but there it is. Nevertheless, I dislike the direct pipeline to the commercial site and resent it when he lurks as a "guest" all the time. But I'll get over it.

You banned my IP address buddy, not my membership. I'm operating from a proxy server, thats why I'm able to post and PM people. I find it quite unprofessional you decided to come up with this "60 minute ban" crap. Thats a lie and you know it very well Mal.
And it's been more than 60 minutes since I tried my IP address. What's up with that? :censored:
And what's it to you if I lurk or log in? I'm giving your site traffic, isn't that all that matters?

I stand corrected. I "banned" your IP address for 6 hours. I thought it was 60 minutes. The software calls it a "ban." Thank you for calling me a liar. So far you have accused us (well, me anyway) of being liars and someone here of being a thief.

Hmm. I'm going back to my original view to ban permanently. Who is the "we" buddy? Do you run the commercial site?
Rather than allow this pissant to soil Cobradav's thread on what he does -- which is infinitely less important to the pissant than being able to view our site and report back to the cult -- I am going to move these threads.
