Hey all,

I am selling the front and rear OEM brakes(Calipers, rotors, pads, etc.) from my 2007 M6. They have 5,140 miles on them, and since most of you know how I drive :old: :sleep2: :old: :sleep2: :old: , you know that they have been BEAR-ly used.

To be honest, I have NO idea yet what :100: to ask for them, but I have calls in to a few qualified people to find out what they are :100: worth :100: . If anyone is interested, let me know. I hope to have :100: prices up here, as well as a few other BMW forums soon.

I just got the news today from :bs: :bmw: that the parts you sold me for the RAZR phone install were not correct, so you owe me. I'll give you $150 for the M6 brakes. Problem is you never properly broke them in so they will require a lot of TLC to get right. And they won't fit any cylinder-deprived 6ers, either. [Note: This may be a false statement. Check with your SA and do not rely upon it.]

Hmmm.. not so sure that they won't fit the 645/650. I know a few 545 owners that have fitted OEM M5 brakes on their cars.

They'll fit a 645/650 but the bias will be incorrect for that car....

I'm very confused now ?

What will be the effects of having the wrong bias?

From what I was told by a few different people, the bias problem only comes into play when you are talking about exchanging brakes on two cars that are entirely different size/weight/etc. The way it was explained to me was that the bias has to do with how much braking you get from the front vs. the rear breaks in regards to handling. Since the M6 and the Regular 6 weight about the same, I was told it isn't an issue. I talked to a few guys at one of the GTG's that changed his 650 brakes to the M6 brakes, and he told me they were a perfect fit.

I guess I need to find an expert to get the real story on this. ANYONE???

I did a little searching on this topic, and found this to be a rather informative article while not being overly technical.

WOw, I had a strange thing happen. I posted a response to this post and it is not here.

What I said was "Maybe our newest member to be, M6OpusX, can shed some light on this subject. He may have added M6 brakes (then again, it may have been Brembo brakes) in addition to the M6 wheels on his 645 coupe. Maybe boxy can point him to this thread."

Will this show as a double post later???

I'll have to send him an email - he's not showing as our newest member yet.

There have been a few posts on the E60 boards about guys with 5's and 6's putting these brakes on with no problems. Brembo uses the same part number for the regular 6 and the M6, so I guess they work.

Bear,

If they work OK on a 650 without changing anything other than rotors and calipers (i.e. proportioning valve, master cylinder, etc) then it might be a cool upgrade. Though I guess this would primarily be for aesthetic reasons as most websites and magazines seem to indicate that the 60-0 stopping distance for both the 650i and M6 seem to be about equal (112-115 feet). Sometimes the 650i even outbreaks the M6 while other times the M6 edges the standard 6er - albeit either way by only a foot or two - so I'd call this a draw which probably is swayed by people's reaction times and slight variances in road conditions more than anything else.

Maybe the larger M6 breaks have more "endurance" and can stay fade free for longer b/c their larger diameter lets them handle more heat? I would assume that there is some functional reason why BMW gave the M6 larger breaks...but it doesn't seem to be for 60-0 stopping distances. Anybody have any insight into the functional advantages of the M6 breaks? Not saying that aestetic reasons aren't enough reason for the upgrade, btw

Anyway, have you thought further about how much you would want for these?

Many of the guys that I have talked to about this have told me that they changed their regular 5 & 6 series brakes to the M6 brakes because of brake fade, and smoother feeling stopping power. However, I think that most of them may have done in for the "look" just as I did when I went for the Brembos... but don't want to admit it.

PM sent.
