I was just sitting here trying to decide where to go this weekend with a friend who is visiting from the East coast, and thought it might be interesting for us KOTR members to post what we think is a great weekend getaway that doesn't involve a security line and a jumbo jet. Someplace where we can :race: to in say… 2 to 4 hours to enjoy a little weekend escape.

Here in Southern California there is a bunch of great coastline to explore both North and South. But like anyplace, when you live there, you sometimes take it for granted; and time and again fail to visit some magnificent spots.
Palm Springs is a fun spot most of the year, but can be brutally hot in the summer months.
La Jolla is one of those places that always seems to have nice weather, great beaches, dining, shopping, water sports and ocean views.
If you like Windmills and apple pie, Solvang is a little Dutch-like town just north of Santa Barbara, and then there’s San Luis Obispo up the coast maybe an hour or so from there.
Anyone else have any suggestions here in SOCAL? I am still undecided.
