Calling CobraD, Definitely need your help on this.

Ok, here is the scenario; leave office take keys(FOB) drive in another persons vehicle leave keys(FOB) in said persons vehicle get dropped back of at my office continue working, end of day realize no keys(FOB). Have spare FOB in office for reasons such as this. Use said spare FOB (never used before) on my vehicle (M5) quickly discover said vehicle (M5) is driving with extra neck snapping torque and speed. Easily squealed tires driving the same way as always out of parking lot, P2 400...umm DSC is on. At light P5 400 with DSC still on, bark tires thru the gears to 4th DSC light activates flashing on screen but breaking traction easily. Scratching head now but with a smile. What do you think I did next.... yup pushed that Crack laced M button so P6 500 DSC Off.

Won't incriminate myself but let's just say I took the long way home and you probably can follow my tracks home from where I pushed that crack button.

What the hell just happened!!

I suggest everyone try their extra FOB(see below mug shot); small build, about 2 inches in height, BMW tatoo. I know they are programmed with car settings but definitely more that meets the eye.

Anyone else have this experience?

Any explanation would help.

Thanks

Maybe it is not the same thing, but when I owned 7er, there was a way to initialize the algorithm, that did the same trick you described. I was initializaing mine almost every week.

Your car has obviously re-programmed itself for your kind of driving. :sleep2: Your unused fob has the factory settings. (Do 5ers also have the spare plastic key that fits in the fob coffin found in the glove box? If so, that will do the same thing.)

in other words, you've ruined your M car with your driving habits and the spare fob has brought it back to life. But it will deaden for you soon, too.

What to do? Drive your car on a level road at between 25 and 40 MPH. Place the SMG in neutral. Engage both paddles for 3 seconds. Push SMG back into gear. You will find you have a re-programmed car.

That will be $500 please. Advice like this doesn't come free. :woohoo:

Does that mess up your seat/mirror/steering wheel/iDrive etc. settings or just the engine performance?

Malibu, that is what I thought at first because it did put everything back to factory settings so it could be but I don't think so. Trust me this is not he same, I know all the tricks I have a 7 and do hold the gas pedal for 25 sec resetting the stored info. Actually I do that on all my BMW's it works. I have had to reset my M3 SMG a couple times by holding the paddles, know that one also. Remember I am not new to this plus I know my cars and how and what they are supposed to do, this is something different from all the above.

I forgot about this, it is said that if you have all settings set seat, mirrors, idrive etc. the way you want then reset your cars driving algorithm with the above practices the hit your seat memory button #1 then hit the unlock on your FOB it will remember that setting. So every time you unlock your car using that FOB it will go back to that reset setting every time. I have done it on all mine but out of habit I still do the manual resets when I think about them anyway. Don't if that one is true but it may be.

I am going back to my old FOB to save whatever is in that one.

When I saw the thread title FOB, the first thing that came to mind was Fresh Off the Boat. :youbet:
