Hacking the iDrive

Ok guys ... well really Dav, the iBus has been hacked allowing incar Control of PC's (extremely cool btw). At the moment we have iDrive hacked to the point a DVD player can be controlled via iDrive, but would it be possible to connect a PC to the iDrive via MOST ?? allowing us to control a PC

You know, I swear I saw this on some strange computer / car forum about 9-12 months ago. I've looked for it several times and not been able to stumble back across it. It was mostly European posters. They were really into the bowels of the thing. Laptops, connectors, pirated software from BMW, passing code around via emails, etc. I’m still trying to relocate it now and then..

Anything new with hacking this iDrive

I have not looked for some time now, but there is no buzz on any other forum from the 1 to the 7 series on this that I find worthwhile to pursue.

What can be "hacked " though is a copy of the NAV DVD by adding additional POI's.

Sites like http://www.bmwnavaddpoi.co.uk/ give some hints but are mostly related to the European DVD's . But I wouldn't expect the file structure to be very different on the US versions though.

Even if using pimp-my-nav software mentioned on the site above, some moderate computer expertise is advised for attempting that though. The idea of installing an additional text editor or PERL on your PC shouldn't scare you.

BTW the Europe 2008-2 DVD can still be copied successfully to a single layer DVD-R by deleting unneeded language folders (including redundant POI tables subfolders) and some minor changes to a configuration file.
