I will try to keep this updated as best I can. Only lists verified info.

Edited and updated 14 July 2010

I have also included the 1/3 series in a separate list.

5 series now includes the new F07 (GT) and F10.

The info coded in the vehicle used to be called Target Data Status and is now called Vehicle Data Status. It is the only reliable method BMW has to know what software teh vehicle has.

Starting in October 2008, BMW issued a new set of hardware to dealers for processing software upgrades. Along with the hardware change came a change in terminology/nomenclature for the software as well. The current name for what was PROGMAN is now ISTA/P. Both vehicle and system diagnostic software will come under this naming convention. My list will include the new naming convention. BMW distributed both PROGMAN and ISTA/P versions for a few months until all dealers were up and running on new hardware. Some dealers (SAs) are still not familiar with or even realize the change, hence some incorrect information is often given out concerning PROGMAN updates when it should be ISTA/P levels

You will notice an attempt by me to include the service bulletin info (SIBs) in the list of fixes when I know them. Since BMW quit issuing a separate SIB for the software updates with a list, this is as close as I can come to replicating such a list.

I'll have to add a bump post to may this appear in new posts.

BTW, there are quite a few F01/02 (new 7 series) SIBs out requiring software updates which is typical of first year models.

I am adding a copy of the new style Final Report and Measures Plan based on the new ISTA/P systems in BMW centers. A new feature is not only showing what previous and new software is loaded but also the as delivered version .

Thanks bdaw - big file loaded ok.

Fredfitch was looking for the latest PROGMAN (CIP) bulletin and I realized it was not up here. So here it is.

In this case do not be put off by the fact that there are more recent reports of higher numbered versions of PROGMANS (CIPs) out there in dealers hands. There are no changes to the "CARS" software than what is shown here. The Target data Status E060-07-03-525 (first appeared with PROGMAN 25.02.00) should be what shows up on the Final Report or Measures Plan or Status Report that all of you are going to ask for a copy of ( at least one of these should be available depending on what is done to car) when in for service AREN'T YOU :electric:

I'll use this spot to keep adding the most recent bulletin when they are released.

This is not so much new information as it more fully developed with additional research. Through additional sources and research I have been able to fill in some gaps in the available information.

First and foremost I have better logic and rationale for those seemingly ever changing PROGMAN version numbers for other than out and out vehicle fixes.

Reason #1: When BMW makes changes such adding RTTI or HD Radio, adding new buttons, different STEP tranny, etc, BMW releases new PROGMAN with "coding" and / or "programming" for these features. BMW has to get these items included in the PROGMAN software in the field so they can service them. Therefore: a NEW PROGMAN VERSION is created. Does us no good but you hear - "Oh the dealer has version xx.xx.02" I want it. No good to any older model so don't worry about it.

Reason #2: BMW makes changes to the dealers diagnostic software (version 51 now) and hardware (about 4th or 5th generation now) so, again, BMW has to make changes to PROGMAN to work with these new tools, but not each and every time. These usually are improved testing techniques for current or older models that the better techs at dealers submit to HQ. In those cases where you may have an issue that can only be diagnosed with the new diagnostic tool BMW may have to upgrade you just to get the desired diagistic to work. These upgrades, again, may or may not include any fixes so are not of great value to most owners.

Reason #3: Changes to PROGMAN versions JUST to be able to load or run better (bug fixes) on te dealers upgrade systems.

Armed with some of this new information I have more fully developed the PROGMAN (formerly CIP) listing as seen here.

I've added the 3 series CIP list in a separate file in post #1. I'll add the PDF version tomorrow.

Any news on what V31.1.0 includes?

Rumor has it addresses turbo lag issues.

Any news on what V31.1.0 includes?

Rumor has it addresses turbo lag issues.

There is no BMW documentation relating to such an issue either in bulletins or the tech training updates. Does not mean it has not been "improved" by software, just that they are not indicating any issue called turbo lag.

There are a lot of fixes that I pulled from individual bulletins (as you know BMW no longer publishes JUST the fixes that a specific PROGMAN/CIP addresses)

Here is what I gleened from various BMW source documentation

Tranny related:
6HP19TU clunk only w/N54 engine (turbo) (E60 3/07-9/08)
6HP19TU or 6HP26TU tranny jumps to neutral only w/N54 or N62 engines 12/06 to 09/08 (X5) or 3/07 - 09/09 (E60)
6HP19TU tranny jerk (or slam if you prefer) w/N52K engine
6HP26TU tranny jerk in X5 (E70) w/N62TU engine
X5 (E70) driveability issues (see previous) up to 10/08
M5/M6 gear blocking faults (up to 9/07)

E88 gong volume too low
1 & 3 series radio volume issue (up to Aug 31 08)
5 series adaptive headlight issue (8/31/07 - 8/31/08)
All - Echo & reverb on landline during hands-free call (March 07 to Sept 08)

Updated list of software releases and new naming convention information. List is a little more comprehensive since BMW quit listing a summary of fixes I am trying to pick up the slack.
