The Bear is hibernating, and Nevervana is taking a well-deserved 20 hour snooze after the two of them spent almost 24 hours straight getting this up and working for us. So . . .

I will venture into this on my own. And, of course, since I don't really know what I'm talking about :blah: - what else is new. :youbet:

If we can't do attachments, can't we still link photos from a photobucket-type host site? I was able to do so, although the results were cut off. (See my for sale announcement in classifieds for the CL55 tin can.)

I ask this because BHJB said we were sunk for posting pics of tomorrow's 6erfest without the ability to insert attachments. But is that really so?

I think (and this may be where I am talking through my :ass: ) that a decision was made not to allow attachments so that we would not take up more than 1 1/2 spaces on a server. (Nevervana parked the forum for us, of course.)

So, if we can't put up attachments is it really the EOTW or just a PITA?

In any event, now that my minders are :zzzzz: I will nose around and see if we can add an attachment function - at least for manana.

I think we can now download attachments. Please don't prove me wrong! :headache:

If somebody can raise the pixel limit from 300 (too restrictive) to 800 we won't have any problems using photobucket, picasa, or any similar uploading service.

I'm not having trouble with large attachments (1024x780) direct from my hard drive in those forums that ALLOW attachments. My problem is we have so MANY forums that do not even allow attachments.

Could it be in the building that there are templates including forums with or without attachments. Then we grabbed one of those withouts and then did copy and paste in making additional forums??

I'm off trying an experiment as a work around to post attachment in a forum that allows it and MOVE to the place I really want it until we can resolve the issue.

Edited after reading GT post and my own experience (1335 EDT)

I believe we have nearly fille dup the server space for attachments as anything over about 30K cannot be uploaded.

Also WORD (*.doc) and Adobe (*.pdf) not allowed. Gotta have these to be of any value for documents.

Dave, I wanted to post a .pdf - have you figured a way to do it? Please advise.

I'm sorry. What is it that you want? Are you trying to get our attention?

Actually, GMAN, put your driving gloves on and :shut: (please :) ) because we're working on this. We rolled out about a month before we should have because Bear was going crazy not being able to post and the worst thing you can have around the house is a crazy bear.

Alright now. All appropriate (about 99%) forums now have the function to post attachments. I say function as we still have another issue that may not be configuration but technical with the possibility of limited server space. I do not know that yet. So be patient, we will knock this things out one at a time.

But as of now I am sure you would get an error message if you attempt to post anything over 10kb - which as we all know is NOTHING.

I may get knocked off soon as storm is headed my way and I am on satellite for ISP.

Alright folks, we have added the ability to post document attachments. Looks like all MS Office products plus some others that I do not know but it is all of them on the list.

Sample here.

Great!
But isn't there some additional function which would create a thumbnail of the picture and embed it within the post?

If someone posts a larger pic now, the embedded frame with the scrollbars will display only the top left border at original resolution, so you need to click on it in any case just for looking what the pic might be about.

Also, is there actually a size restriction for uploaded pics? I'd really recommend it, otherwise lazy people tend to upload unprocessed pics straight out of their camera, and such 8MB approx. 4000x3000 pixel images are no fun at all.

Yes, I believe that there is a setting for that. What would be your recommended size?

If that size setting refers to resolution (as opposed to file size), either 1024x768 or 1280x1024 probably makes sense.

Right now it is set to 1024. But if you look at my testing Pics thread anything above 800 pixels is kinda a waste. you have to scroll to see everything on the picture and it will not open in a new window (no setting for that is this software version. When you click on those large files then you loose a portion of the pic. Clicking again or outside the pic alloes you to scroll, but not the best way to see a picture IMHO.

There are probably a number of 800x600 monitors still in use. Given Dave's findings on >800 pixels, 800x600 would make sense, IMO.

YEs, there is a size restriction and that is in the number of pixels for the picture formats. There is only one file size restriction so by using it to control pictures would limit the size of pdfs and other documentation and we do not want that as we need to have good technical documentation capability.
